There are several ways to consume medical cannabis. Your chosen method can affect the intensity and duration of the effects of your medication.

Combustion

Combustion refers to a few different options, such as a pipe, water bong or rolled cannabis joint. It is generally not recommended as smoking can contribute to COPD and produces undesirable compounds that can be irritating to the lungs. Some things to consider related to combustion:

  • Up to 30% of the active ingredients are lost in sidestream smoke and combustion.
  • Effects are usually felt within 30 to 60 seconds and fully develop within 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Effects typically last between 2 to 3 hours.
  • A typical cannabis joint contains between 0.5 to 1 gram.

Vaporization

A vaporizer is a device that heats dried medical cannabis without causing combustion, producing a vapor rich in cannabinoids that can be inhaled directly. There are several different models of vaporizers, and you can explore your options to see which one works best for you. Some points on vaporization:

  • Much more efficient than smoking.
  • Effects are usually felt within 30 to 60 seconds and fully develop within 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Effects typically last between 2 to 3 hours.
  • Does not produce undesirable compounds that can cause lung irritation.
  • A typical vaporizer bowl contains between 0.1 to 0.25 grams.

Extract Oils

Our cannabis oil is made by infusing THC and CBD extracts into a carrier sunflower oil, offering patients a simple, easy-to-administer method of consumption. Although prepared edible products are not currently permitted for legal sale in Canada, OrganiOils can be used in the preparation of cannabis-enriched foods, added to liquids or placed directly under the tongue. Oils offer an inhalation-free, discreet alternative to combustion or vaporization, though the effects differ from combustion or vaporization.

When consuming cannabis oil (especially for new patients), titration is key. It's a process of gradually increasing a dose until the desired results are achieved. The key concept behind titration: start low and go slow. Because the effects of ingestion often take longer to onset than the effects of vaporization or combustion, patients are cautioned exercise patience to gauge the effects of the first dose before taking additional doses. Consuming too much can result in some discomfort, and should be avoided.

How to effectively achieve your titration point:

  • Begin by dosing in the evening and separate doses by at least six hours.
  • Maintain a consistent dosing schedule and consistent increments.
  • Gradually increase the quantity (if needed) to find your optimal dose.
  • Adjust dose timing accordingly, based on severity of symptoms. Some patients prefer to take smaller doses at greater intervals.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • OrganiOil is formulated to be taken orally and can be consumed with or without food.
  • Effects are usually felt within 30 to 60 minutes of ingestion.
  • Effects typically last between 4 to 6 hours but can be longer for patients with a lower cannabinoid tolerance level.
  • OrganiOils provide a long-lasting steady dose, similar to extended-release medication.

While effects of smoking or vaporizing medical cannabis occur within minutes, the effects of oral ingestion have a slower onset and longer duration.
